Hiya lads I am new to photography complete beginner and I was hoping I could get a little advice on alternatives to this case as it's a little expensive for me.

http://products.lowepro.com/product/SlingShot-202-AW,2192,4.htm

I like the idea of an all weather case and the fact that this one will also take a tripod. I like the ruck sack type especially the design of this one with this one as it only has the one strap.

Are there any cheaper alternatives.

I will be carrying a

Nikon D3000
18-55 lens
70-200 lens and the usual bit and bobs
Space for a packed lunch is a must for my requirements as well.

I think you will find that most photography specific bag's will cost at least around this price........the other option is to buy a non photography bag that is unbranded and turn it into one yourself by adding padding etc.........but I wouldn't do this personally, because your kit isn't as well protected.

The Slingshot/Sling type ones are good because you can easily get access to your camera by swinging it around and having a flap where it can open.

I personally use the Lowepro Classified Sling 180 AW at the moment, it's a great sleek little bag but it's even more expensive than what you've mentioned. I did used to use a Lowepro Fastpack 250, which is a normal backpack (not Sling) and that was decent. Also has a top compartment for lunchbox etc, similarly priced to the Slingshot though.....and does not have a tripod mount or an all-weather cover.

I'd suggest stretching yourself to a decent bag that suits your needs, because it is money well spent as they do last a long time. If you are on a budget, you may be able to find a good bargain in the forum Classifieds section.

Have a look on amazon at Gem Bags....I have a laptop version of one of these for my D300 kit... terrific value and very well made

Managed to get it at a reasonable price on Amazon cheers.

Never seen those Gem bags before! They look good for the price for sure.
