Hi guys, not been on here properly in a while, have scoured regular but not contributed.....

well heres an update....

Not had much fun with my camera over the past year or two as Ive had firstly an operation on my stomach! then more recently had quite a bad accident on my motorbike (if you aren't too scared of blood...look here

And When I say bad I mean I shouldnt be here (they even shut the road off and crime scene taped it for over four hours.

however, the accident has left me with a speech impediment and short term memory loss.... which means I've had to withdraw from uni temporarily but it may be permanent!

so I have decided to keep myself busy and help me to remember things by the use of firstly, MY IPAD and secondly...... PHOTOGRAPHS!!

So Ive taken the plunge, and I have a brand new 7D to hand and a new 24-105 F4L on the way on tuesday.

So hopefully you may see more contributions from me now.

Hope you are all keeping well

PaseoDJ

PS If I am allowed to ride/drive again (temporarily been told I shouldn't be driving) I WILL be getting another bike

I WILL be getting another bike

Perfect excuse to get something even more lively than an 01 / 02 ninja

That being said, Welcome Back and I hope you are recovering well from your injuries

Ive seen a nice spiderman coloured R1, I've also heard stories of what the father in law will do if i get another bike (he was a doorman, then a funeral director....would you mess?)

But still its in my blood, my brother is still riding (we were riding buddies) and my father is just about to take his test so I think I will risk the wrath of the in law.......

Welcome back Lee, I know how you feel about getting back on a bike. I had an accident which led to 3years off work. I would love another bike but have so far resisted the urge. Fast car instead for me. Good luck with the photography. Iain

That was some horrific accident, if ever there was an excuse to throw yourself into photography then this is it. Nearly lost my wife to cancer a while back, survival puts a whole new perspective on life :) Enjoy life, enjoy your motorcycling, enjoy your photography, good luck for the future ;)

I hope you recover fully never good to hear when a biker goes down if you farther in law won't allow another biker get a nice sports car I can't see your wife liking you having another biker either.

Thanks guys.

To be honest the girlfriend is leaving it with me....particularly because there's no guarantee I will be allowed to drive again she hopes I'll go off the idea but has agreed that if I do it'll have to be only a weekend thing..... Good compromise... Failing that the ariel atom looks good...... The girlfriend is a petrol head which is a good thing, she drove an s2000 when we first met.

I was left with a fractured skull too due to the accident and have only just had my neck collar removed after three months. The laceration has left the side of my face and ear a bit numb and have limited motion in my left arm which may need surgery yet. So there's no quick road to recovery I'm afraid!

Which is another reason my photography spark has reignited..... I'd be stuck at home bored out of my brain with nothing to do as the only other hobby I had a keen interest in was power kiting......bad arm/ shoulder =no power kiting

Mate, that looks painful !!!!!!!

Glad you are getting better and hope you do make a good recovery.

Yes the aerial atom is fantastic, but has a price to match as well now. Have you thought about a caterhan or Westfield ?

Probably near the thrill ride (or close) as a bike, but you have a passenger you can talk to aswell.

Good luck with the photography.

I have thought of many options but I'm not able to work, study or drive lol, I think I'm gonna have to just dream about it for the time being.

And as for painful..... Just a bit.... I still get hardly any sleep after 3 & 1/2 month due to pain in shoulder and neck but I'm just trying to get on as normal as possible.... I have to rely on my iPad as my memory as to what I've done, what needs doing, what's happened to me, where I've been, what's changed around the house etcetc, it's not a nice situation to be in, I'm lucky that according to witnesses, I wasn't at fault, as otherwise I'd be buggered even more

Unfortunately it is going to probably get to a point where there is too much in my iPad to read in one day........ On a different side though....my other half showed me all my Christmas presents before Christmas to see if I liked them first...... They were still a surprise on Christmas day and even today and will be tomorrow.........

There's little chance I'll ever be able to use all of the functions on my new camera, a lot of it means I need to have a play with the cam first to know where the main features are......

Annoying or what........ No, cause everyday it's a new thing lol

Ouch , thats not good - it took 3 bike accidents to convince me that cars were the way forward, I'd second the suggestion of a caterham 6 , or one of the kit clones like the phatem.

Welcome back to the site and to the hobby.

That looks horrendous, but it's good to see you staying positive and keeping a sense of humour. Best wishes for a full recovery, and in the meantime I hope the new camera* manages to keep you occupied and sane :hug2:

*I almost added the forum to that sentence too, but sanity is in seriously short supply around these parts :D

Wow. Big crash, hope your recovery is total, but the camera is a great way of helping. Looking forward to seeing some of your shots.

I'm on the phone at the moment so don't know your location, but there's always fast cars and trackways that are a little safer.

well heres a few photos for your pleasure, critique welcome however bare in mind it is a cheap lens im using as im waiting for better glass to be delivered next week! also it was more of a "lets play with my new cam" than a "I'm going to take a guaranteed seller!"

PS...... Happy new year

I wish you a speedy recovery. After my last bike crash the wife put her foot down and said no more bikes but I could spend the money on anything. So £6000 on camera gear. Best thing I did.

Good luck
Dai

I like that comment a lot lol!

however in the real world.............My other half doesn't want me to take my camera out of the house as its over £1000 worth of equipment...... I've had to go back to basics and explain what a camera is for again.....

She still doesn't like me wondering outside....

Get a TDM: comfy as hell and can do the naughty end of the speedo as required :)

I have the utmost sympathy with you: my brother did himself in on a bike and I had similar memory issues for a couple of years after this

All I can say is that it does get better, little by little, day by day.

As much as I'd like to get a different style of bike, I still get wet over the sight of a sports bike.......... Regardless of comfyness....

Not allowed to drive yet so to be honest can't see myself getting another for a while..... Psychologically I've not been affected....... I knew everyday getting on a bike I ws at a higher risk. A risk I took and will take again.

I'm sure il keep you all updated with my progress...... Been for an MRI today on my brain... Just gotta wait for the results

From a fellow biker who's still nervously awaiting his first rubber side up experience (on road anyway), get well soon, enjoy your camera and love the boxer !!
P.S. Since you've kept your sense of humour, have you considered changing your user name to Jason Bourne?

Haha... Like the thinking...... But it's more like 50 first dates than Bourne identity...... And no I won't change it to drew Barrymore either.

I passed 21st July 2011 and crashed 21st September...... I think once you have biker in your blood, you'll never shake it...... So I'll get another one....even if I have stabilisers....hehehe

It's not put my bro off and it hasn't put my dad off so why should I let it put me off. If I could remember the accident then maybe I'd be saying something else

That's an impressive time span!! My mate used to hold the TA record for crashing a new bike at 25 hrs ownership. His mate (an experienced road racer) took him out then uttered the immortal words "don't try and keep up". My mate (graeme) only used the bloke part of his brain and heard "keep up".
I think you can guess the rest!

Ouch.... Lol

Well all I can say is I wasn't at fault on this occasion..... They pulled out on me.... And are going to be prosecuted for driving without due care....... However I believe that they still haven't admitted liability (oh and there are two witnesses)

Thanks John

too early to tell at the moment.... we're hopeful though. to be honest there is a lot more to my injuries than just the memory loss...... gotta have tests done on my shoulder too......

I can remember mine. I thought to myself "Ah, so this is what a crash is like". Weird what goes through your mind :)

I'd been riding 20 years, though the bike was only 4 weeks old. :'(
