Can anyone recommend a battery grip for my 40D that will allow me to continue to back focus? I don't want to pay a fortune.

I bought a brand new Phottix make for my 50D from amazon for £59.90,brilliant.:)

Do none of the grips allow back focusing with af/on button?

In the custom functions you can swap the 'AF-ON' and '*' button functions. This affects the battery grip too. Obviously you will lose the exposure lock functionality on the grip then, but you will have AF-ON.

I used to use my 40D like this (when gripped). It takes no time to get used to.

Agreed though, the AF-ON is a serious omission from the 40D/50D grip.

Thanks, Chris, that's great. I'd almost never use exposure lock anyway, so this is no problem.

Look for one on fleabay by Meike, I had one on my 40D and now have one on my 5D2. They are almost undistinguishable from Canon ones, and function identically.

There's someone I think trades as PPQ I the UK thats where I got mine from :D
