Hi all
I am in the process of buying a 50D, I am undecided as to buy a battery grip or not, so 2 questions:
# is it really needed or carrying a spare lithium battery be enough?
# will the kit not be too heavy: camera, battery grip and lens?
Thank you

A single battery lasts ages, two doubly so. However, one in your pocket is just as good.

Only you can answer the 2nd question.

It does balance the camera and if you shoot portrait a lot then the extra shutter controls is a bonus.

Thank you Andrew, I think that i will leave it for a while.

the OEM grips are 50% of the price and as good for me.
the grip is great for some things, but I take mine off sometimes. only if I need the handling do I bother with it. on a day out it stays at home
