I've just ordered an original copy of Photoshop CS4 Extended Edu edition (this is the educational edition that allows you to use it for commercial purposes and is upgradeable).
Although I have been using CS4 for a while I had kept a seperate laptop for it and at the end of each trial period had to reinstall windows and reinstall CS4, I will no longer have to do this.
I previously had Photoshop CS3 student but it would not work with my 5DMkII CR2 files and my version didn't allow upgrades.
So for informational purposes, provided you are a student, teacher, lecturer or facilty at a recognised teaching facility then you are entitled to some large discounts on software.
