Beginer DSLR help

So after using a cannon point and shoot for a couple of years and wishing to take my photography further, im looking to get a second hand dslr. My budget is around £350 - £400 and thats for everything, body, lens and mem card.

Not fussed on brand really but my mum has a 50d and a few lenses for that so I can always borrow them. What kit would people recomend for this price range? Second hand is fine and ideally ill be looking in the classifieds when my post count is high enough. Thanks for any help!

you could get a new 1100D+ kit lens for that but how about a 40D?
(I've only recommended Canon based on your being able to borrow Canon fit lenses)

Another reccomendation for the 40d here! That budget should get you body and a reasonable lens (maybe a 55-250mm IS, aka nifty250). Then save up for a Canon 70-200 f4 L, brilliant combination!
