Hi all
My partner is wanting to take up photography, and I would like to suprise her with a basic starter camera, now I know nothing and I don't know what to get her, budget being very tight (racing a car isn,t cheap) Lol...
what would you advise as a semi decent camera?
thanks in advance.

what is it you/she wants...? a DSLR,a bridge camera or point and shoot.

if it's a DSLR,then you won't go far wrong with a nikon D40,sony alpha 200,canon 450D etc...with the sony and nikon offerings available for around £250 with kit lens..

Has she used an slr before and if not I would suggest a bridge to use first as they are a lot more forgiving and then move on if she gets the bug

She has never used a slr before, I was thinking some thing point and shoot to start with, then if she enjoys it, move onto something more sophisticated..
budget a couple of hundred..

These are very good: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produ...2/2|cat_12109590|Digital+cameras|12109607.htm

So is this but it's a little easier on the eye: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produ...2/2|cat_12109590|Digital+cameras|12109607.htm

Or you could always go down the Cyber-shot route: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produ...2/2|cat_12109590|Digital+cameras|12109607.htm

The above are all links to the Argos website as they have some really good deals on at the moment on point and shoot cameras. You may find cheaper elsewhere though so make sure you shop around!:D

get a panasonic fz28 or a sony h50 as they are a simple as a point and shoot but you get the flexibility of an SLR but without interchangeable lenses smaller sensor etc.

some nice looking equipment there, given me some really good ideas.
Thanks (y)

I wouldn't surprise anyone new to photography with a DSLR. Too much risk of overwhelming them.
I'd get a good point and shoot with moderate optical zoom (around 8x, perhaps) and image stabilisation.
