Hi all! I am after some quality advice, I have decided after realising i can get some decent pictures from my old tired compact camera, to buy a decent DSLR. Now i am a total novice with no knowledge of photography really but id still love to be able to learn and play around with effects, lenses etc and get some nice pictures to hang on my wall and well, learn more about the art of photgraphy.
Can anyone recommend a camera for me? Dont really want to spend too much but i do understand quality often comes at a price so lets say £500 and under (might get an ebay bargain!!) but cheaper the better really if i dont need to spend this much. Nothing too complicated but i dont want something that technology has made extinct in two years time too, thanks in advance.
Dan.

I was in a similar position and bought a Nikon D3100. Very useful guide mode to assist you and well within budget.

3 friends have a Nikon D3100 and are really very happy with it, and as already mentioned, the guide is really very useful if you're starting out.
However, depending on how involved you get with your photography, you might 'outgrow' it in a year or so...

Thanks, had a look at both the Canon and Nikon but what are the main things/specifications i should be looking for and comparing? without getting too technical, oh as an afterthought, im not too interested in video recording if this helps the decision making.

That one, that one, or perhaps that one.

TBH it doesn't make much difference if all you want to do is take photographs. It gets a little more complicated choosing if you want video as well. There are very few turkeys in the DSLR market.
