Yes
Looking at buying a decent 70-200mm lens for my d300s.

Mainly because ive been granted passes for a couple of big festivals this year!

So what do you recommend is the best value for money brand at this length?

Sigma? Or maybe second hand Nikon 80-200mm? Nikon 70-200mm with VR would be the business, but it all comes down to how much you want to spend really....

The 80-200 AF-D is (imho) the best value for money, it depends,as the man above says, how much you want to spend.....

And also do you need/want VR

Yeah obviously i would state a budget but to be honest, if a lens is sound for a great price compared to others then im interested!

Ive used mainly sigma stuff and to be honest their zooms ive found a little soft... but then their 70-200's seem to have great reviews...

grrr... a nice lottery win would help this situation.

Value for money. Gotta be the Nikkor 70-200 VR2. Remember that although it's expensive you'll probably lose very little if you ever sell it on !
The difference between what you pay now and receive later will be minimal. That's true value !

IIRC the MKI siggie 70-200 is/was the better version of the 2 siggies.... but then again if your not really wanting the VR ten opt for the 80-200....

Have a look here it may help you decide... pixelpeep just select the lens you wish to see... It may help...

Any of the Nikons, from an 80-200 to a 70-200 VR2 will be great value as they should not depreciate too much. A second hand VR1 will come in less than £1k. Am sure that you wont lose too much over the years.
