Best card for Canon 550d

Hi all, I am new to the forum! I have just bought myself a Canon 550d camera and have come across a little niggle with it! When I record video it only records for about 30 seconds then automatically stops? I suspect this is down to the memory card I am using? Reading on the net it seems I am not the only person that has this problem. I have read alot about people trying different memory cards but there doesn't appear to be one favorite? Anyone suggest a good fast card for this camera?

Assuming it's not something in the settings limiting the video length, you should be looking for a "class 10" card. Sandisk are expensive, but have very good rep. I have used Transcend and Duracell class 10 cards in my 550D with no problems at all.

If you buy, be aware there are many rumours of fakes around. Buy off an established retailer; if you must go to ebay (and I have), look for someone with lots of +ve feedback who's been around for several years.

Strictly speaking you don't need a class 10, a class 6 should work just fine, but personally, for the small price difference, I go for class 10.

The Transcend class 10 cards are good, they come in 8, 16 & 32GB and are pretty cheap on Amazon

I've got a couple of Transcend Class 10s that I bought for my wife's TZ9. They've been bulletproof so far, but I do tend to go with Sandisk, and most of mine have come from Amazon.

I've got Duracell 16gb Class 10 cards from 7dayshop, they're rated for 30 MB/s, and although I have no way of testing the actual speed, I've never had a problem with video recording stopping at all never mind about after 30 seconds. I dont do much video work but what bit I have done these cards have coped perfectly well, and at less than £1 a GB you cant go wrong. I even brought some Duracell CF cards for the 7D cause these were so good.

I was going to ask about the rating, I take it class 10 is about 30mb/sec then? I have looked at the Transcend on Amazon and they are very cheap, well worth trying anyway as I need a faster card!
