Best place to buy Canon 50mm 1.4?

As the title suggest, I'm looking to get the Canon 50mm 1.4 prime, but where would be the best place to get it?

Is it worth getting a second-hand one, or should I steer clear and buy new? Also, is it better to visit a camera shop to buy or is it safe to buy online?

I was thinking about going Sigma, but the sheer number of complaints about the focussing issues made me uncomfortable to buy
 
I've always bought from Amazon. Fast, reliable and reasonably priced.

I think they are about £283 at the mo, only a few quid more than the cheapest but Amazon are very good, with great customer service.

I'm sure there are thousands of happy customers.

Check out the hire company reliability data, the fact that some of the most unreliable lenses are expensive Canon ones doesn't seem to stop people recommending them on this forum and others going out and buying them.

Buy the lens of your choice from a good dealer and be happy :D
 
I bought mine from Ebay for £225 and mines is fantastic. It's sharp from wide open, fast at focussing and not too noisy. I used mine last weekend at a party on my 5D3 and it performed brilliantly. It was in a darkened room and I was shooting with flash and I couldn't really tell if it was focussing properly but when I got the photos on the computer I was amazed how sharp they were.

:thumbs: they have brilliant customer service, i wouldn't buy from anywhere else
