Hi, as the title says really! What SD card should I be looking to get? I want to work in RAW format, and doubt I'll be doing much continuous shooting, so do you think this will be a suitable card:

The 16GB attracts me the most as it means I'll be able to take 900+ RAW images on my 450D. which is handy if I'm away for 2 weeks without the ability to DL them!

If not, what would everyone recommend?

Thanks for your help!

p.s - I tried to search for a thread like this but it was having no luck, so sorry if one gets posted every other day! New here! :help:

Bigger the better for sure and Sandisk Extreme 3 or 4 seem to be the best/most popular. I use a couple of Extreme 3's and they have been faultless so far.
Not the cheapest by anymeans but then you get what you pay for.
I normally use these guys............. http://www.mymemory.co.uk/SDHC

Not sure if you mean size or brand.

My personal choice would be Sandisk for the cards and then in the smaller sizes rather than one bigger one. This way if something goes wrong with the card, you still have others which are useable.

I use the Sandisk extreme 3 4Gig cards. I find this is about the right size and if one gets corrupted I havent lost a whole days shoot.

Cheers for the advice all! Seems like the way to go is to get 2 x Ultra's for me then!

Just as a question, never personally having a memory card corrupt on me, has it actually happened to any of you? I don't think the SanDisk would offer me any more comfort in that respect than the Samsung or other 'good' brand!

Thanks

to me, all the SD cards are good as long as they're not unbranded :D

I use the basic budget blue Sandisk cards and they haven't let me down yet. **touch wood**

I shoot on 4GB cards, just incase for some reason a card ends up being unreadable/erased. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but oh well. :P

I use the Samsung SD Plus in my 450D (backup body), and the Samsung CF Plus in my 7D. I have a few 4 gig cards of each.

btw that samsung looks stunning lol, I don't think it would be a bad card.

Well, I bit the bullet today and bought the 16GB samsung card! Trust me to listen to advice...:bang:

If the only worry I have is a corruption one, then I don't see it being an issue.... I've never had an SD card/MSPro/USB stick fail on me before so why now? Besides, I'm probably more likely to just lose a card than the data on one become corrupt.

I'll give it a good test when it gets here to see how quick it actually is at writing to it (should be faster than an ultra, but we'll see...) and I'll see how it handles continuous shooting (6 is the limit of a 450D in RAW right?)

Cheers all!

Right, I got the Samsung card today!

A quick test revealed that:
Write speed is just over 12Mbps
Read speed is just under 16Mbps
The 450D recognises that it can take 926 images in RAW format too.

Hope that is helpful to someone else in my situation.
