I am looking to buy a tripod for my new camera and hoping for some guidance on a good starter tripod which will get me on my way. Any suggestions would be helpful. Cheers

The best starter tripod is the most expensive one you can afford. Otherwise you'll do what I did -

1. Buy cheap tripod for £30.
2. Realise it's crap and buy a slighty better one for £50.
3. Realise it's no better than the £30 tripod.
4. Spend £120 on a big, heavy, stable tripod.
5. Try walking 2 miles carrying big, heavy, tripod.
6. Spend £240 on a good, lightweight, carbon-fibre, tripod.

Total cost - £440, several blurry photos and a bad back.

Now, if I'd just bought that £240 tripod in the beginning I'd have been a lot better off.

I bought the Velbon DF 40 which was £25. Im a beginner so was happy to pay that amount and see how it goes. It seems decent enough for my needs and i would recommend it.

However if you consider the above post heres a carbon fibre one at a decent price.

Like you as i say im a starter so £240 seems abit crazy really when theres lenses and other things to accommodate first.

Hope this helps, Phil

I have a Giottos MTL9 and it is only 400g heavier than the carbon one and the positions you can get it in to is unreal http://www.giottos.com/MTL-9.htm and at £119 it was a bargain from Wildings

Redsnapper all the way, 283 Tripod and RSH-528 3-Way Head Kit. £69.99 so with the 10% discount to TP members £63.

Great, thanks everyone! Time for some research........
