Edit My Images
Yes
I hope I don't look stupid here lol, can I take a black and white photo with my Sony a200, I understand I can photoshop my image, but is there a setting on my camera which will let me take a black and white pic, I've read through the very poor manual and couldn't see anything:|

It is possible, but I always shoot in colour and convert in PS as you have more control over contrast, curves etc. In Adobe Camera Raw converting to B&W is just a click of a check box.

Welcome BTW :)

stupid question if you take the pic in black and white on the cam would it still be the same Quality if you where to edit it to black and white in photoshop

It's all new to me, I kind of understand RAW but I really want to learn to use my camera, without altering via editing software, I love the idea of capturing the moment. Thanks to those who responded, I would appreciate it if you could also respond to the picture post I created.

RAW is usually worth bothering with, though there are those that don't. RAW gives you much more scope for editing, and also (as in my cxase most of the time) pulling back blown highlights etc, correcting exposure etc  It's worth making sure you've got software to edit RAW images though.

B&W in camera or in PS should have no bearing on image quality at all I wouldn't have thought.

I don't believe if you shoot raw and set to B&W in camera the raw will be in B&W. I think the camera only applies the settings for the preview and when you download the image for editing it'll show in colour.

Thanks again ChrisMClark, I have the packaged software that came with my A200 Image Data Convertor, I assume this is what your reffering too, I'll give Raw a go, but it does use much more memory than jpeg though, doesn't it ?

Raw images on my D40, and on my old E-420 took around 10mb, but my 2gb SD cards still hold a few hundred on them. The the price of more cards I'd say it's worth it to shoot RAW.
