Black line in viewfinder but not in pictures

Ive just been taking some pictures of my fish and noticed a black line in the viewfinder but doesnt show up on images

the line is there when no lens is attached

What could it be and what can i do to sort it
 
Could be a hair on the focusing screen, that is if it is an irregular short line, rather than something regular that looks like Canon put it there.

Remove the lens and try a gentle blow with rocket air blower up at the focus screen.

It couldn't be that if it shows up without a lens attached.

It is more likely to be on the focussing screen as pointed out, or maybe on the actual eyepiece?

ditto the mirror, a hair on there would have same effect, just be careful with both parts that you try not to touch them with the end of the blower and hold camera face down while doing it, so any dust & fluff falls out hopefully.

its like a wobbly right angle but doesnt show up in images

It wasnt there last week so might be a hair or something

It would of been at the top left in this image

Focus screen or mirror then, blower should do the trick ... just be careful as both the mirror and focus screen are delicate, a blast of air will be OK.

I had a look inside but couldnt see anything my mums got my blower so will have to wait
 
The focus screen is replaceable (it's a 2 minute job), if it's cracked (difficult to see how that could happen) then you could take the opportunity to upgrade it.

Nice Caulastrea, got to love LPS.

you would be amazed how a 'blond' bit of fluff [SHUT UP YOU LOT!] will be almost invisible to the naked eye, yet looks like a whopping great black lump when viewed from the other side, as a silhouette through the viewfinder :eek:

yeah its worried me but will keep calm till i can get the blower. I thought it was the lens at first was not impressed

I sold my sumped nano set-up when I realised that I enjoyed photographing it more than I enjoyed maintaining it, and a change of circumstance meant that I always always maintaining it and never looking at it.

Maybe one day.. ..

dont let it worry you, even if the blower doesn't remove it, at worse, it is annoying you as you look through the viewfinder, but it isn't affecting the images. At some point you can get a professional clean done on the camera and that should get rid of it. I would do it myself on mine, but you do have to be oh so careful with focus screens and mirrors, so if you are not confident you can be that careful, leave it and let a proper service centre do it.

sorry bad way of wording it i meant lens as in the glass in the view finder must be more clear in future
