Wondered if it will take the weight

Can't see why not, mine takes a gripped 5d3 with 70-200 f/2.8 and 430exii flash attached

I hang a 200/2 + 1Dx off a double or an RS-7 and the strap and connector portion is the same on each so I shouldn't think you'll need to worry.

I use one with a 1D3 / 1D4 with 70-200 f2.8 / 100-400 which I asume are pretty much in the same ball park weight wise.

I use it with my 1DX and 70-200 MkII plus 2x TC and its fine.

That is some smashing combo. My mate has actually proved it. I'll stick with safe and trusty OPTECH system.
