I did a photo book of some iPhone images and entered it in Blurb's photo book competition. If anyone wants to take the time to click a vote for me it'd be appreciated! Obviously, only vote if you think it's a decent book

you can also now see a full preview of the book for a limited time while judging is on

http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/1367024

thanks everyone.

Gordon
edit: didnt realise you have to register to vote for the book. Sorry about that. If you are already a registered blurb user then please vote. if you are not then you can still see the preview.

no I wont. asking for use to vote for you just because you can doesn't mean you deserve it. you should win the competition through technical and creative merit and not asking people on a forum to just register and vote.

so sorry... I'm out.

oh and many others will say the same.

Fair enough...don't suppose you bothered to look at it or any of the other entries...or do you just sit on your horse and pontificate from on high?

i've edited my original post to make things clearer.....

that's better, just remember you can't just get people so it's better that you've asked us to have a look and vote if we like it or not.

If it's good enough for the Oscars I'm pretty sure it's OK for a Blurb comp, particularly as the OP already said...

So I assumed he was just bringing his book and the comp to fellow forum member's attention, no harm in it IMHO. Mastertrinity, you are of course entitled to your own opinion but your response did come across as a little churlish.

Nice shots by the way, interesting choice of subjects and surprising quality from an iPhone and lots of other good entries too, all though I haven't checked them all out.

he has only just added the "vote if you like it" bit.

Fair enough, I retract my 'churlish' slur and apologise unreservedly :D

Although I would still be pointing folk to my stuff if I was proud of it. And I would, of course, expect people to make their own decision whether it was worthy enough to vote for.

yes this is why i didn't agree with the first draft of this thread, however now that it's edited it seems much more reasonable:)

I didn't vote but did have a look. Some good stuff, to many subjects for my liking, and you don't even mention the path set by Chase Jarvis and the Best Camera book.

Sorry but it felt a little like you have done a copy (albeit a very good one) of the photographer who basically started this whole movement and tried to claim you came up with the idea yourself.

I also think that canvassing for votes (I know you added the if you think it is good enough thing) is wrong. Some will vote for you without even considering all other entries, which is not fair as you are gaining votes because you have asked people to.

[/rant]

I see 'vote for me' or, to be fairer to the OP 'let me direct you to...' posts so often on forums now that I kind of think it's almost the accepted way to go these days.

Sometimes I check the link, mostly I don't. Sometimes I do and vote for the poster (vote whore/whatever) and sometimes I don't. Sometimes I vote for a different contestant.

On many of the ones I see people post about, the others have family members/friends/colleagues just go and vote whether or not they look at the content or other contestants.

I rarely post to the OP about how I feel because they are just up against all the others doing it. They may choose the 'wrong' forum in which to make their point, but it's also not up to me to point that out! ;)

No real need to get up in arms about an on-line competition which will always be open to abuse or manipulation in my opinion. :)

I never blame people who start "vote for me" threads. I will take a look, often. But never vote if it means I have to register. Just cannot be bothered registering.
