These shots don't really work for me. its not really a shot of an animail in its natural inviroment nor does it reveal any amazing detail.

Your camera has got the white balance badly wrong in the second image.

I have to disagree- its a cockroach and is in its natural environment
the colour balance as you say is totally askew in the 2nd image
