Blogs...who do you use?!

I'm looking for help and advice here.
I want to set up a blog....we have one for the website that both Dave and I write for, but I want to set up my own blog - and I dont know what site to use!!!!

Mainly its to blog a lot of things on how I am coming along, what I'm learning and everything. Its something that I would have liked to have done via 2008 but never got around to it.

But who do you find is the best to use?! Who do you use? Have you swapped the blog-site you used?

I've had an online journal since I was 16!! But using a different type of blogger completely confuses me currently.

I want something that is fairly easy to use and to update, doesnt have to have a tie in to flickr, but may help - and something that has the ability to leave comments back on it.

Its just somewhere else to get my work out there, and not necessarily the things that I do in the studio/weddings etc, but almost experimental shots. And to keep a blog for me!

Help?!
 
You can use Blogger for a hosted solution. Wordpress also has a hosted solution. Alternatively you can download Wordpress and use that on your own webhosting... it's really easy to set up. Also when moving blogs its not a huge issue anymore because the most popular blogging platforms all export and import with relative ease, so you can move your content about with you.

I recommend Wordpress as it's what I use on all my CMS managed websites. It's also much more than a blogging platform with a HUGE support and development community if there is something you need someone is bound to have done it already.

There are also photoblog themes for Wordpress. Take a look here. You can also build your own themes if you fancy being adventurous.
 
Thanks for the response KayJay, I'm going to keep it different from the website one, and that one is just one thats already built in. I think that I may just have one that is its own hosted solution rather than having to find the webhosting too.

Does anyone find that there are any disadvantages to having the hosted solution!? :thinking:
 
Advertising normally comes with a hosted solution.
 
dellipher, take a look at this on the Wordpress.com site. The .com is their hosted service. .org is the free downloadable version.

Apparently on the hosted one the very RARELY show advertising, and you have the choice of removing that risk completely by paying a fee similar to flickrs. $30 a year or something. That's not bad at all.
 
I use blogger for what it's worth, and made it fit in with my website too.
