I am new to DSLR photography, I bought the Sony Alpha 380, and has a number of lenses for it. I just got my recent lens the Sigma 18-250, great lens when used and versatile. However, I am having a problem with pictures, if I am using it in shots with people in it I tend to get the picture blurry, however, if I use a handless approach (i.e. Tripod) the pictures are better.

Hence, the question is is this normal i.e. this lens need to be put on a tripod.

The Sonys have Image stabilization built into the bodies all i can think is it not turned on, but could be camera shake

Here you go, go and grab yourself a nice drink of choice, get comfy, and have a read through the tutorial section that covers using the forums, including posting pictures and stuff.

You will need to host it somewhere then click the insert image icon. (second from the right on quick reply box)

Try photobucket etc.. for hosting.
 
Without knowing what settings you were using it's hard to say what your problem is.
You should have no problem at 250mm hand held. You will need to Push your ISO up increase your shutter speed and see what you get.

While reading the link for tutorial on uploading and reading your responses, I decided to take some pictures to use for upload, one thing triggered in my mind was that earlier today I used the manual mode for some takes, hence, this was not changed by me later. I reset the setting and used the Auto feature and shot some, they were as clear as they can get.

I will post some as soon as I get my account to link pictures up and running.

#1 isn't blurred - it's what he's smoking that's making it look that way!:lol:
 
:thumbs: yep, problem solved, that first pic is a 1.6 second exposure... you would have to have hands like rocks to hold for that long. I would start reading up on exposure and using shutter speed, aperture and ISO in manual settings, so you can start setting it up correctly in that mode. In the meantime, auto is fine, you can start getting an idea on what the camera is choosing for you and start replicating/adjusting for similar circumstances.



eidt: oh and just one thing....you need the images to be a maximum of 800pxs on longest side. I wil break to links for now, but if you re-upload resized images you can then edit the post with the correct sized pics ;)
