There are usually not use maximum aperture.
In my opinion, better takes pictures with tripod than with maximum aperture.
Specially in the landscape photography.

agreed but I didn't take my tripod
I also wanted to see how it performed wide open
quite pleased
the lens was hired (www.lensforhire.com - shameless plug) just so I could see how good it was
I'm saving all the pennies now....
