with a few tweaks you could save them .. what i mean is bring out the detail in the face not save that was wrong of me to say.

its hard shooting in the sun..

Answered your own question in the title didnt you? ;)

Fill flash would have worked well here, neither are brilliant as both are very dark and have bits cut off, like clothing and feet.
 
Hope you don't mind, I lightened their faces a bit although maybe this was not the effect you were after.

rules are there to be broken! and as i was experimenting im not to disapointed, thanks for the comments they have been taken on board. !

Agree completly and its a great way to learn in my opinion. Welcome to the forum by the way :D
 
that does look a lot better thankyou, can i ask how you tweaked it!
 
All I did was put them in photo ellements and lightened shadows.
