Hi there, i own an eos 400d and unfortunately today one of the pins in the cf slot broke off. It is probably my own fault for weakening the pins by placing the card into the camera the wrong way round a few times :bonk: however the problem occurred when removing the card. Just wondering if anyone could give me advice on which route to take. Is there any way this can be fixed or do i need to replace the camera? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

With a broken pin, then you have about a 50% chance of being lucky....around half of the pins are common.

I'm afraid we had this on our 400d, and not by putting the card in the wrong way. It's a mainboard replacement and cost us £185 about 18 months ago but we did had a turnaround by Colchester cameras in 5 days.

I was told it's a really common fault on the 400D's (seemed googling the fault agreed) and they changed the supplier of the cf card slot/pins bit for a stronger version on the later mainboards.

Have you tried the card in to see if it still works - re what Bob's said

Thats good to know

Thanks everyone unfortunately it is one of the pins which means it will not work. Just wondering what the difference would be between the £85 fix on ebay and the £185 one? At the minute i will probably opt for the ebay fix unless anyone knows of any reason why i shouldnt?

Just letting you know the seller that Flash in the Plan recommended on eBay did a great job for a fraction of the price charged by others and camera is working 100%. Thanks!
