Heard an advert on talksport last night about Brother doing A3 printers for stupid prices. look on the website and they do A3 (not A3+) for under £200 but didn't know if anyone's used them for photographic printing and how they stand up against the more establish competition from Canon, Epson and HP.

Any views?...

Personally I wouldn't touch Brother printers with a bargepole! We bought one because it was A3 and handy for work prints and had nothing but trouble with it. After a lot of toing and froing back to the shop one assisstant was honest with us and said that they get a lot back in with the same fault and there is nothing you can do with it.

We bought an Epsom in the end.

Have a look at misco.co.uk, they do printers at reasonable prices. I've been using them for years, albeit for A4 HPs.

Misco is a company well known amongst users of commercial computers but they don't have a big profile in the photography community.

:agree: When I told my local camera shop I was thinking of buying a brother printer I thought he was going to slap me.

My original thoughts were that although they're a big brand, for the money they're asking (about £170 for a combined printer and fax) it was never going to be on a par with the more established A3 printers like the Pixma 4000 and the Epson 1400. Plus, both the latter can do S3+, which is an obvious bonus for display prints.

Oh, and they (Brother) sponsored Man City for years... which is never good!!!! ;)
