I have a NAS drive connected to my Belkin router and together with 2 desktops and 2 laptops all are on a network share files etc.

I have recently received a Home Hub2 as part of a deal to stay with BT.

I cannot get the NAS drive to work correctly with the network, rang BT they want £30.00 to fix it, there comment was I can get on the Internet so it works.

Doe's anybody use this setup or know how to get the NAS drive configured correctly?
 
Do you have the ReadyNAS NV+ ? I had mine working to a BT Home hub no problem, but for other reasons too complex to explain here, I changed it for a Netgear router.

I made it easy for myself by assigning a permanent IP address to the NAS within the netmask range of the router. we've got a number of computers working to it. I guess there are about 8 devices connected at any one time ;)
 
how do you normally connect to it? do you have a mapped drive or do you just browse to it through network places? my bet would be your computer thinks the drive is on a different network address to what it is on now.

also what NAS is it? does it have some software that came with it that can detect the unit?
 
You should be able to see it with the RAIDar software you have..... it will scan for it.

If you haven't got it you can get it from here....
 
I just browse for the drive, at work so cannot look into the problem at the moment. Will investigate and log the details to update tomorrow.

Ok...... my suggestion would be (based upon the fact the NAS is set get it's own IP from the BT hub/router [DHCP]) start RAIDar, find the NAS, browse to Manage it then set it's IP address to something like xxx.xxx.xxx.200 which is toward the end of the hub's address range and will not be interferring with DHCP allocations.

Put it this way .... it worked for me and I've transferred these settings to my new Netgear Router. :cool:
 
I have been ill with a viral infection, so having a look now.

Update;
1, I setup the NAS drive using the supplied software and can now access this correctly from both computers on my home network.
2, I can print using the other computers printer
3, the other computer can print using my printer
4, I cannot browse the complete network, or access the shared docs on the other computer.
5, the other computer cannot browse the network, but it can access the shared docs on my computer

The error message for numbers 4 & 5 is;

“Home is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The network name cannot be found.”

6, when I use the BT Broadband Desktop help to view my network (from the other computer) it shows all the items connected except my computer.

7, when I use the BT Broadband Desktop help to view my network (from my computer) it did not show the NAS or the other computer and the printers correctly.

Any ideas, I think there is a network setup error somewhere, but as it worked using the Belkin router unsure as to where to start.

I tried setting the address to a permanent IP address to the NAS, the NAS was then not recognised by anything. Tried running the network setup wizard through Windows XP, again no success. I am reverting to the old system as I have a large project to get started and finished quickly, thanks for the help.

Ok - dunno what speed the Belkin router is, but the ethernet side of the BT home hub is only 100 Mb/s which would account for some of the tardiness if the Belkin was a Gigabit connection. The system will only run as fast as the slowest link....

I bought a Gigabit Netgear switch so for big projects I connect with a cable than rather than go wirelessly through the router.

Check the permissions of the shared directories on the NAS device. Also worth looking at what file system types those directories are. Once, one of my directories had allocated itself 'root' privileges and nothing would access it. I had to 'get into' the command line of the device as 'root' to re-allocate the ownership.

The NASready forum is a worthwhile repository of info and helpful people.
 
Had a very frustrating time with lots of thing, man flue etc, plus I retired.

Its is now working not to sure how, but it works.
