budget lenses, worth it?

hey everyone, i just wondered, and im pretty sure i'll know your answers already :p, but are there any budget lenses out there that are actually worth getting, i know you get what you pay for, but i've seen some shockingly cheap telephoto lenses for example the Samyang 500mm Mirror Telephoto Lens
f/8.0, for a mear £89... surely the picture quality must suffer drastically? cheers guys (:
 
don't buy it if you dunno why mirror lens is. The construction of the lens is different then a normal telephoto lens. (someone will explain this better as i dunno how to put it in word).

A mirror lens is like a telescope, yes 500mm f8 sounds good but in reality you not gonna handheld the lens and get good performance, also the lens is manual focus too.

Mirror lens is better to use on a tripod but even that you need to put some effort to get decent result.

The lens is more like to shoot moon etc .....

If an inexpensive/cheap/budget call it what you will lens is all you can afford and it's the difference between having A lens and none then I'd say it's worth it.
I'd rather take pictures than not:)

Good point, I agree totally and it's for birds mainly, when it's not birds it's zoo animals (:
 
Joe, to be honest I wouldn't waste your money on a mirror lens...you'll use it once then wish you hadn't bothered...I suspect!!

Righto George, I don't think I'm going to bother, might just get the sigma 120-400 or whatever it is what do you think... (: cheers mate
 
Joe, I'm sorry I don't know the Sigma range, although I'm sure others will and will comment accordingly, however I think you've mad the right decision in binning the idea of the mirror lens, I bought one years ago and it was a complete waste of money.

oops double post!!
 
I had a Samyang f/8 mirror lens (I can't remember if it was a 500mm or an 800mm) and you got better quality images by resampling a shot from the cheapest Tamron 70-300mm - which aren't exactly brilliant themselves.
