Buffalo drivestation ext HDD help please ?

Hi

Having used a buffalo linkstation live ext HDD for a couple of years I've bought a drivestation ext HDD to increase the capacity. I've connected this to the linkstation via usb.

The problem I have is that the drivestation is read only and I cant seem to change this, I'm using windows 7 and have Admin privileges but permission is always denied when I try to alter anything.

Any ideas please ?

have you checked the settings in the linkstation? if its anything like my synology you have to assign permissions to volumes from there.

I'm trying to find where permissions might be, the drivestation works perfectly when plugged via USB directly to laptop, but when connected to the linkstation becomes read only, I think you're on the right lines with your suggestion.

a quick google suggests the "guest" logon only has RO access, might be that.

presuming you can if you havent already id set up a user on the linkstation that matches your windows logon, and assign that access to the volumes.

is this "guest" log on the log on for the laptop or the HDD ?

itll be what the linkstation uses when the logon info from the computer does not match what is set up on the linkstation

I'm on it now and I reckon the solution is staring me in the face !!!!

Its bloody frustrating though because looking at the linkstation stuff its got some pretty good features including scheduled back up capability which is exactly what I want

Done it !!!

Took me absolutely ages and went round in circles most of yesterday afternoon

got up this morning and had another look and to cut a really long story short had to reformat the drive to XFS , which is the same as the NAS drive and its all good
