Yes
just got back from the woods and buggered my lens,:( dont know how it happened but it seems to have disengaged itself and doesnt zoom in or out, it was a canon 28-135 is usm.. only had it 6 weeks or so..:sulk:

so im having to sell my other body to fund a new lens,
im hoping to get £400 for it and the bits so what good/fast walk about lens could i get for this amount? probably could put a bit towards it though..

any suggestions?
what is a good cheap (if theres such a thing) L series walkabout or equivalent??

really buggered at the moment as other than that lens i just have a 135-400!!:(

regads wes

Only similar in L glass is the 24-105L IS USM but I suspect it's out of your price range.

Why not see about getting your lens repaired, it would probably be far less costly :D

but there again they might charge £50 just to say its ca'put.. or want loads more to repair, and its only worth about £160 mint!

I carried a Tamron 18-250 round for 3 years with great results and they are cheap as well.

The only downside is they have a little latch to stop them zooming when not in use and it can be a pain in the derrier if you forget. It's a great general togging lens for general use. Not sure there's an L series on a budget type of lens.

Did you buy it new? If so and you don't think it's been mistreated, then I would expect it to last longer than 6wks- even if it is a Canon;)
Take it back to the shop for a refund.

If it was second hand it's a bit tougher as it starts to fall into the FFS, life sucks at times bracket:shrug:

seems ok, although im not familiar with tamrons,
i know siggys EX range are good, but i dont know what tamrons letters mean?

Wes the Tamron letters mean it was specifically designed for crop factor sensors.

Have a look at Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II VC LD Asph. Macro sposed to be a good lens will go fine on your 50D has vibration control can be got for just under your limit simply electronics I believe. Im thinking of getting one for my 50D.
So if anyone knows of any problems with this lens please shout.

Is it NEW I get back to your seller and see them if it is.
Canon repairs are fixed price and will tell you before starting on it.

Hi

Sounds like it might be one of the rollers inside for the zoom mechanism that has come loose / come out / lockec it up.

If it's new - get it sent back, if it's 2nd hand, contact Norfolk Camera Centre - seem to remember a friend getting charged around the £55 (inc ins delivery back) to have his 28-135 repaired - his wouldn't zoom unless you held the lens in a specific direction, they did a great job for him, and stripped it down twice as after the initial replace of parts they weren't happy about it and so replaced the other guides (with no additional cost).

Hope you manage to get it sorted

SHOUT!

No problems with IQ but is so slow to focus......i had one and got rid after a few months. Outdoors is ok in bright light but anything less and it takes ages to focus....indoors, forget it!

is there any fast lenses out there for my budget?
say f2.8 with 18-80 range??

i might get the lens sent off for a quote but i want a new one now anyway, perfect excuse to get one. :D

they are a good lens and ive taken some really good pics with it.:)

how about siggy lenses, do they have anygood ones, can anyone comment from experience of owning one? :)

Hi I bought the Canon 70-200 f4 L non is for £450 from camera exchange not sure if its long enough for you though? Its a great lens but the IS version is near a grand and the 70-200 f2.8 L is nearly 1700 <faints> lol

i do want one of them, but not to replace this lens,;)

i read that review and didnt seem too bad.. as it said, its less than half the price of the L version.. i think its ok for a poor man on a budget!!

anyone used the sigma 24-70mm f2.8 lens?? got pictures i can see? :)

I have the Canon 28-135 and the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 (macro version)

If you do get the Siggy the first thing you'll notice is how heavy it is compared to the Canon. The focus is lightening quick and accurate but a little noisy and it's not full time manual override as it lacks hsm. The zoom ring on mine is a little stiff and and if I'm honest the build quality isn't the best, mine looks like it's been in a war zone , Less 'used' lenses should be better.

I've not used it for a while but I think I have a of shot in the gallery, yep-

I'll look for some more

Plenty advice been given so i will just say.....

I am pretty sure Buggering a lens is illegal, if it's not it should be.

I recently purchased a Tamron 28-75mm F2.8. Very happy with it so far - especially for under £300.

Straight off the camera, giving some insight to the colour and subject isolation at f2.8.

First one looks soft - only his retinas are in focus actually, here's a 50% crop -

That's come out well - I really should stop-down a bit (well, a lot!).

BTW there is quite heavy vignetting at the wide end at f2.8 on this lens, similar to the 24-105f4l at 24mm f4.

Cheers
