:help::shrug:
I have a nikon d40. It is still fairly new.
The built in flash worked beautifully when i got it.
(bought it online from a camera shop in NY)
I have checked my battery, all settings, even reset my settings.
I'll go into a dark room and still, the flash wont go off!
Checked the ISO and shutter speed -- all of which are on auto.
The flash will pop open, clicks - but does not go off.
I have called nikon 24/7 help and the guy had no clue what he was talking about, and i could hardly understand him. customer service my butt!
i don't know whether or not the flash has it's own battery... does it?
does anyone know why this is happening or of any way to try and fix it myself so i don't have to spend the money for it getting fixed.
IN DIRE NEED OF TAKING PHOTOS WITH A FLASH!!!!!!!
please help!!!!

Welcome,
Sorry, can't help you directly with your Nikon as I'm Canon, but my in built flash runs from the main battery - I would have presumed your Nikon would have also, I'm sure you will get some info from Nikon users shortly.

Hope you get it sorted out (y)

Sorry to hear this....it isn't a blown bulb/fillament is it?

...there was someone else on TP that had a similar problem a year or so ago. If I remember correctly it needed to go to Nikon for repair - it was out of guarantee and the charge (I think) was going to be around £80. He opted for an SB400.

Hope it is something other this. Fingers crossed.

Chris

also have a look for a small microswitch in the hotshoe..

this has come up before, the result was that the microswitch in the hotshoe had stuck down so the camera though there was a flashgun mounted in the hotshoe and was disabling the onboard flash. Not sure what camera it was on though.
