Someone's aked me to do a burlesque photoshoot for her, It's not something I've ever looked at from a photographer's point of view, only ever admired it really.

I'm going to do it, and she knows I haven't done it before, but she's also never modelled before so that's ok.

Any hints on some good effects, we're going for the classy, no nude, feahters kind, E.g Bettie page & Dita von teese, with the victorian corsetry.

Bare in mind I only have a D60 & a 18-55mm lens and no lighting or backdrops

How can I get some good effects, with no equipment and as little editing as possible?

[S2]x Thanks x[/S2]

Are you going to be doing the shoot on a stage? Like at a show? Because if you are I'm pretty sure you could use the stage lighting to get some nice lighting effects.

I'm thinking of booking a room for a day at the Queens hotel in Leeds?

Yeah, it sounds like you're going to be lacking equipment to really make this a good shoot. Have you thought about renting any equipment?

probably £ 30 an hour, flash equipment and some assistance included. I bet studios would be grateful for a couple of hours slot - not all can have the luxury of being fully booked and cash helps pay the bills

how much would a hotel cost, without extra lighting and help?

basic camera and kit lens is fine for some studio work as the lighting is controlled.

Does anyone know of any good studios in leeds?

I agree with Andrew. I reckon the studio would be a good idea, plus it'd be a good experience for yourself.

I also agree with the studio rental, decent natural light is pretty damned hard to come by this time of year!

Also, lighting aside, I think for studio work, as you are both new to it, its a good idea to take a 'mood board' board with you.
I do this all the time as sometimes `I get nervous and go blank, and sometimes I just get stuck in a rut with certain ideas.

On my mood board I always have poses that I definately want to try out, as well as a few maybe's, a list of props I intend to use, and settings I might want to try.

Make sure your friend has her make-up with her if you use a studio, make-up melts under hot lights, more so when youre nervous ... and translucent powder is a must for touch-ups.

As its your friend and youll probably have the opportunity, a dummy run is useful, sometimes Ive found some of my 'best' ideas just dont work as well on camera.
Hope this helps a little.

Thanks, we're meeting up before we arrange the shoot for a coffee and a brainstorm.

After all there are 3 types of burlesque in my eyes, and I want to know which she prefers

(Hollywood, Modern & Classy)

Hello!

We're just down the road from you in Morley!

We'd be more than happy to give you a hand with any lighting issues or anything you need as well :)

More info can be found in the For Sale section of the forum, or by clicking the link in our signature. We've just reduced our rates as well, can't be bad!

:)

good guess of mine for prices - £ 35 for 1st hr, £ 25 afterwards - 2hrs average £ 30. Half day sounds good.

I've been on a couple of studio taster sessions - and its been very good - learnt a lot, got some great shots and the studio owners have been very helpful, offering help and assistance for beginners.

I've tried both high key and low key sessions with pretty basic equipment.

That's Perfect!

You'll have to show me how to use some of the kit though, being a pet and educational photographer, I don't do studio work and don't have the need for backdrops and lighting etc.

You ok for me to have a drop in and a chat?

[S2]Thanks[/S2]

Yeah sure, just give us a bell before you come over, as we're not always here at the moment, and one of us is on holiday next week (Not me sadly -matt)

We're more than happy to go through lighting setups with you :)

Glad to see youre getting sorted. :)

Mind me asking what an 'educational photographer' is?

I photograph students at work to use in college and university promotional material and prospectuses x

Like these for promotion of my college's animal sectors... (Bare with me, they were on my old 7mp camera)

Hi

Have a look at my website@

www.tiptop-photography.com

There is a section purely for burlesque - I am official photograher for a few burlesque shows in the midlands - there are lots of different styles you can adopt without going down to nipple pasties.
