Cable release or not!

No
I have been thinking about getting a cable release for my D200 but is the worth the £65. I mainly shoot landscapes and always use the self timer so there isn't any camera shake. The only advantage that I can see is that I would be able to take exposers longer than 30sec.

I would welcome others thoughts.

There must be an ebay cheapie out there! My Canon one cost a few quid, and latches for loooooooooooooong exposures or repetative continuous shooting.

Obviously that's for an electronic release. Is the shutter button threaded to take a mechanical cable release? That would be significantly cheaper.

I use a cheap cable release from ebay and its good, best results is to use a tripod and ,mirror lock up and then use cable release to fire shot. to reduce camera shake and if its windy weight your tripod down with you camera bag to keep it secure.

as for cable release ive got this. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Shutter-Cable...raphy_DigitalCamAccess_RL?hash=item45eeaf9453

My advice: get one. I bought a cheap one from HK for my D90, just a few quid. Works like a charm and is just great for landscape/HDR shots. I hate having to hunt for the right position to take a shot with IR remotes and the cable one is straight forward, doesn't fail and for some reasons feels more like you're in control.

http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_1&products_id=102291 Is a cable release and if you search in Amazon for "Hama Wireless Remote Control Release.ni-1" you'll find a wireless version. I have both and since I got hold of the wireless version, I haven't used the cable one. (The wireless one from Amazon actually comes from MyMemory. Oh, and ignore the plug on the end - the Nikon version comes with the 10 pin plug to fit the socket on the D200)

You can get away with using the delayed timer in most cases. The big advantage though with the cable release is it allows you pick the exact moment of exposure, e.g. when the wind drops.

I got one 2.99 delivered from hong kong for my A700 and it's absolutely brilliant. You can even lock the shutter button so if you're wanting to do really long exposures you don't have to stand there with your finger on the button for ages. Spending 65 quid is illogical :p

i bought a generic branded cable release for my 450D from Jessops. works like a charm :]

Get one off "Flash in the Pan" off here, they are sensible money and work very well........
