Hi all. This is my first post here. I am having a real dilemma deciding which camera is right for me, I have narrowed my chioce to Nikons D90 or D300s body against Canon or other brands, purly because I have a selection of older Nikor AF D lenses from a Nikon film camera, which I beleave are compatible. Cost is not really an issue here & yes I know the 300s is a better camera but is it really £600 better? After reviewing the features of both I like the preset scene modes of the D90 & seems very good value, all be it more for the amature (ie me. For those times when I dont want to think too much) & im sure the 300s has evrything on it I will ever need & probably more, & aso a bit more "future proof" in terms of upgrading.has anybody got any thoughts on which one?

what nikon lenses do you have? if you had a few basic ones then i would simply go with a d90 and spend the other £600 on some better lenses or if you already have good lenses then go with the d300s. by the way what photography do yuo shoot as this will determine your camera needs, and second have you handle them in a shop because the build is also important.

Hope you don't mind with my usual answer for this type of question, but I'd go for whatever feels most comfortable in your hands.
I have no experience with either of them, other than holding the D90 and deciding I preferred the feel of the Canon 50D, so i wouldn't like to suggest what to spend your money on.

One way of thinking is by going for the D90 you get £600 to spend on other kit, should you so desire to spend it that way.

Thanks for the great advise I hadnt thought of the extra dosh I could spend. The lenses I have are Nikor D lenses 35-80 & 80-200 which I supose are ok but not the best in the world, & an excelent 24-120 lens which was about £400 8 years ago I love the feel of both, but the 300s feels like a propper camera that could take some abuse not that I woulsd abuse £1300+ gear .maybe I could buy the body with the kit lens 18-105 (saving a little on this lens bought togeather) & gettig the 18-200 later ? I mainly shoot landscapes & family portraits but as I am a racing cyclist want to shoot more of this

For around the £650 mark you can get a new Sigma 70-200 F2.8. would be excellent for your cycle racing assuming you are not miles away from the action.

The 2.8 would be useful on dull days too.
