I am off to Turkey in a couple of weeks and will be taking my camera.
Of course i want it all fully insured should the worst happen, but i'm not sure where i should be looking.

Is there specialist travel camera insurance available? Would appreciate anyone who can point me in the right direction.

Have you checked your home contents insurance for possessions away from home?

Provided you're not doing any professional work out there you'll probably be covered.

Also, take a look at Altas Direct for your travel insurance as their limits are pretty good.

As others have said check your home contents insurance but really read the small print, there's a lot of caveats with single items over x amount and a total claim etc. Mines covered but I have to declare the body & lens seperately as they are each over £1k in value, I pay slightly more for this but it's then covered properly :)

My home insurance is good for single items not exceeding a value of £1500, which covers all my kit. I'll give them a call to check if i am fully covered abroad.

Cheers.

Just checked this, left it a little late i know. But it turns out my cover will not extend to taking my gear abroad. So i will be looking for separate insurance for this, any suggestions?

The only problem with Photoguard is that you need to pay the premium to cover all of your gear abroad, even if you're only intending to take a fraction of it with you. May not be a problem if the total value of all your gear is under £1500, but if it was, say £15000 it would add £400-500 to the premium....

I'm not aware of iny home contents insurer who won't extent your cover if you pay the extra premium - give them another buzz and see what they say.

If you rely on travel insurance check the fine print very carefully - buying online makes this so much easier.

Things to look out for are the single article limit (and how do they define this - ie. do they consider the body and lens as seperate items), restrictions on theft cover (eg. is it only from a locked room or when on your person), plus will it be 'New for Old' - with travel insurance cover is often provided taking into account wear and tear.
