Can anyone give me any recommendations please? :)

Thank you

Thanks dangermouse....I think I had a leaflet in a mag recently..rings a bell

Don't use E&L if you want car coverage on your kit. They only insure cars which have boots that are separate from the car and cannot be accessed from the main car. Basically they don't insure 90% of cars on the road...waste of time. I've also heard about problems when making claims.

I canceled my E&L because of that, I have Photoguard now, good price for all my kit. Not made a claim yet but heard they are ok.

Check out your own household insurance. You may get cover under that, but go for "all risks" to cover most eventuality.

Also check out Aaduki insurance. They do have some clauses re transportation in cars, such as curfews, and storage compartments ( they state a locked boot, not much use in an estate) however a phone call will get you a waiver on both counts, to more realistic terms

We have all our gear insured by them and its only about £5000 worth but its still insured in our car thats a hatchback anywhere in EU as for claiming we dont know we have never had to but will check the small print

Having used this forum for a while now and learned so much I think I am going to take the advice given here and cancel my E&L and look somewhere else (Its not the first time I have heard bad things about them)

I looked at that, and feinted at the cost. I upped my household insurance and believe now it's fully covered home, away and damage and theft.

(He thinks carefully now, as he just moved this summer and changed insurers......runs to find policy!):eek:

Hell Im cancelling my cover at E&L having read the small print I am handing them £11 a month and we are NOT covered in any way ....surely this is not the right way to do business

I'll throw that leaflet away then dangermouse shall I!!

will look at photoguard and aaduki :)

well if you get the chance before me lemme know any good deals ;) :woot:

Just looked at the photoguard website and they allow you to earn money by having a link on your website - is it worth requesting one for the forum so that anyone thinking of taking out insurance is essentially "donating" £7 to TP and getting "cheaper" insurance?

i have always used Glover & Howe. they seem to cover everything with no fuss at all.
They also do Public Liability which is becoming more and more useful, especially if you are ever out using s tripod or leave your bag on the ground for someone to trip over. You know how we are turning into a "suing nation" these days.

Mrs G on seeing all my gear in my new Mini Trekker asked if I had it all insured, she has previously had no idea of what I have spent but she has read in one of her craft magazines that some lenses can cost over £200, if only she knew:naughty:.
Anyway with her asking about insurance, and knowing I have spent a lot of money on my gear I am now obliged to get it insured rather than having her saying "I told you so", it would also be sods law if did not insure it something will happen.

G&H are good, they cost slightly more than other insurers but are very good at paying out. Apparently they do it no questions asked.

I did quite a lot of searching, and in the end went for G&H. They seemed to be the only company I could find that would cover for theft from a hatchback as long as the gear is concealed in the boot.

I really wanted a company which would offer cover for overnight theft (I go camping, and the car is the only "safe" place to leave the kit). I couldn't find anyone who would do this, but G&H came closest with theft cover between 0600-2100.

Do you mind me asking how much it cost???
