Camera lenses and marriage?

Hi Guys

I’ll cut a long story short, I assist a local Pro tog who shoots a lot of fashion type shots with models, (no glamour et al) My wife says she is very supportive of me doing this, but deep down I think it unsettles her on some level, she always wants lots of attention when I get home and I’m always dog tired, But I’ve asked and she says it doesn’t bother her.

The local tog has offered me paid regular work as a second shooter at weddings, it’s not something I went looking to get into, but I reckon I will enjoy it, and my wife is very happy about this because it brings a little money in!

Now here is the dilemma. I have three M/F lenses and I love them if you type Voigtlander into the search engine here you will find that I keep banging on about how brilliant they are! There are a couple other guys on here that like Zeiss,

But I know they will be useless for wedding work, so do I pack in the model shooting and go in the wedding tog direction? I could trade the three of them for the 24-70mm, but I’m scared I will miss the IQ, speed and close focusing distance of the prime system.

By the way if, was to keep the primes I would rent the camera gear needed to do a wedding.

I'd keep the primes if you like them so much, you may find you only need 1 zoom lens for a wedding especially if you are a second shooter, so I'd be tempted to rent one the first time and see how it goes.

keep the primes, you'll regret it otherwise, and see if you can try the Nikon 24-120 .. it's f4 but incredibly sharp, and if you're 2nd shooter you might find you can get away with it over the 24-70 2.8

My wife knows nothing about photography, BUt she can always tell when I mount a new lens to my camera, I think she detects that I am abnormaly happy!

You might not enjoy the wedding work as much...a less controlled environment than a model shoot, plus having to deal with more people (read into that what you will!). I'd go with the other suggestion of hiring something, doing a 'test' wedding, and then going from there

Hire for the first few times for weddings, then if you decide you enjoy it, when you have enough cash, go for the 24-70... best of both worlds
