has anybody got any veiws on neck straps or them ones that go in the hand.I seem to get cluttered with a neck strap and was thinking of the type thats round the hand, the more I do this hobby I seem to use the tripod more and more. would it make it less cumbersome.
 
I recently bought a Black Rapid RS7 Curve with the Brad strap, and would have no hesitation in recommending it. I use it to carry my D300s with battery grip and 70-200mm f2.8 lens and don't even notice it's there it's so comfortable.

I have never used the type that straps around the hand but I should imagine it would be very uncomfortable after a short while just hanging there.
 
Best camera strap I have owned is a Black Rapid RS-4. Does not put strain on neck like a conventional strap. Keeps camera ideally placed to swing straight into action. System of using attachment that screws into the camera tripod screw means you can use same strap with different cameras. I use mine with a Nikon D200, with battery grip, and with a Mamiya 645 with battery grip and AE prism both of which are relatively heavy cameras. There is a useful video on the Black Rapid web site. Not cheap but in my view well worth it.
 
I can't really see any advantage of a hand strap over a blackrapid, as the entire weight of the camera is always supported by one hand and it's inconvenient if you need to use that hand for something else.

Blackrapid is definitely the way to go - i've had my RS7 for a year now and would not be without it. It happily carries my D700 & SB-24 flash all day with ease. I think you can get a tripod adaptor for blackrapid as well.
 
I modified my OP/TECH into a Blackrapid type strap. So comfortable, would not use anything else now.
