Camera recommendations for nightclub photographer

Hey guys, I am a DJ and would like to take photos of my gigs for online promotion. I am a complete amateur and know nothing about cameras, so I bought a fujifilm S4240 camera which takes decent photos some of the time but i need to take well over 100 shots to get 30 useable ones with around 5 good ones, it struggles to focus in low light and so many shots are blurry and are useless, its a shame when you have people posing for them, can't really go taking four every time, especilly as the flash take 5 seconds to recharge. Could anyone recommend a camera i could get second hand on ebay that would do. I'm not selling the photos so i don't need an amazing £1500 camera, but they are selling me so i need it to be better than a point and shoot. I'm on a tight budget so i need to know what will do the job for as little as possible please. Thanks for your time.

How about a Canon 1100D from their ebay outlet for ~£175 and add an external flash (will freeze your subjects but keep the background looking busy)? Yongnuo do decent ones from £35 up (get one with TTL).
 
You need at least a half decent camera and flash, and more importantly, know how to use them.

If you just want a few good promo pics, suggest you get someone to do them for you.
 
I tend to agree with Richard... With another member of the forum I run a entertainments company and we do some night club photography along with the DJ services, I cover the photography side of the business though of course also being a photographer my business partner also does a fair amount of photography when I'm not able to do it for various reasons, but his primary side of the business is the DJing I'm not a DJ yeah I can cue a track and fade in/out, mix in/out as required but I'm not a DJ...and to be honest to offer a service of both DJ and Photographer you really need two people as if your trying to do both you'll be giving neither your full commitment.. If you want to spend time to learn how to use a camera you want to buy then great your in the right place, and there are plenty of experienced club photographers here that will be more than happy enough to pass on their knowledge and experience :thumbs: but just buying the camera will not make your photos better in the same way me buying an expensive mixer would not make me a DJ
 
Completely agree with Richard and Matthew that unless you really want to get into photography and learn how to get what you want out of a camera (and can save up a bit to spend enough money to get a really good camera), you should hire a pro to take your photos. There aren't any cheapish cameras that are going to give you the results of a professional camera in low light situations like yours. Even the cheaper dslr's don't deal with low light as well as you'd ideally need (because of their sensor size), and then, to be honest, it's not just like buying an expensive camera will make it shoot well in those conditions; you have to know what to do with it.
