Camera rental damage

So I rented a camera and it died on me. Apparently it got wet inside and fried the circuit board.

My question is does the rental place have it's equipment insured fir things like that and how much is it going to cost me?.
 
Only the rental place can answer the question.. and you'll have to tell them sooner or later, better sooner..

It's a 600d, the camera is totally unrepareable. The contract I signed did not say I would have to cover the damage, hence why I need some advice.
 
The wording in the contract will be the imperative to the outcome to this. Unfortunately without the contract we cannot advise whether you will be required to pay.

In my experience of hiring goods there is usually some level of insurance with an excess to pay. The level of excess is usually around 25% the value of the item.
 
The only people who can tell you this are the agents you rented it from.

None of us can advise you really.

I hate to say it, but if it's due to carelessness I expect you'll have to pay for the damage. As above, how did it get that wet?

I'm not actually to sure. I was shooting video out in the rain but the camera was covered up.

The fact that its got wet and died would suggest thats not strictly correct and thus the fault is yours.. I dont think that camera is weather proof is it? I know mine is but I always keep it proper covered anyway...... I would seriously contact the hire company at first instance.. I am guessing you would need to pay some sort of excess ...

Yeah I contacted them strait away via email just wanted a quick heads up so the response didn't knock me off my feet.

Got it all sorted now, cheers

We'll, let's speculate.

My guess is that the rental company were distraught that a customer was made to suffer in this way, so provided the OP with a free 600D to make amends. And probably paid for a weekend in Spain as well. And a case of decent wine.

I'm also speculating as to why the OP was renting a 600D when, according to his profile, he already has one (I'm a member of the noseybugger club as well ;)), but not getting very far.

I was speculating that the OP's camera bag is actually full of ..... oh well.
It does seem a little strange somehow.

However, some of the comments from other posts are about how well weathersealed the 1D is, you can leave it all sorts of muddy places. Likes biking apparently.

When you have limited time to get an edit done you have to have 2 cameras to get 2 separate angles and twice the footage. I own one and I rented one.

The 600 I use for video, just in case you couldn't grasp that.

I wonder how just one of the 600Ds got wet? Very square crisps if you ask me. :thinking:
