Camlink 2800 tripod

Yes
I have the Camlink 2800 tripod, I have only used it literally a couple of times and the handle bit for moving the head backwards and forwards has come loose, I can screw it in but then it will half pull out again, is this a common problem with tripods and can it be fixed?

Also, how much weight can a basic tripod usually hold? Tried to put my D60 with kit lens and SB-600 on it and it just slid straight forward under the weight. I can't find anything to 'tighten' the backwards and forwards movement either.

Sorry if I've asked some really stupid questions, I'm a noob ;)

I'd really suggest getting a better tripod.

These are probably of use with a compact camera to get you started and nothing else.

I don't know if you're strapped for cash, but if you can muster up £100 or so, Redsnapper make good quality tripods and ballheads, which will be more of a match for your gear..

And if you want to upgrade without spending a fortune then have a look at the Giottos I have for sale.....the link should be in my signiture!!

I think I will have to get saving, I'm also saving for a photography course and a D300 (eyes bigger than belly type camera envy with that one). ;)

Do you have a link to the Redsnapper tripod you recommend?

Well, it hasn't had many good reviews if you 'Google' it! Best that can be said for it is that it JUST worth the money. (That was people who had bought it at around £17 - £25) Others have experienced the same as you, ie the head drooping, sticking and not locking, so seems to be inherent fault.
Take the advice of others on TP (and myself) and get yourself a decent tripod, have a look at the classifides and as previous mention, Redsnapper.

Thank you for the Red Snapper tip, I've bookmarked their site. Any in particular that I should be saving up for? I do hope to get a better camera when I'm good enough to justify it so I'd like it to go beyond my current equipment.

I did look up Camlink before I went to get one and I read good reviews, I should have looked up specific models. I also asked the man in Jessops if it was suitable for my D60, a kit lens or my 70-200 and a flash gun and he said yes. I had no reason to doubt him. Really wish I still had the receipt, I have had a think and I have honestly used it twice.

What have you got now? If you have a P&S, then you won't need a top notch tripod. They are rated (among other things) on the weight they will carry. If you are going to upgrade your camera in the future, then look at one that will see you through that at least!

DOH!! typed this before your last reply!!

Definately go for a Resnapper!
