My son has passed his gcse and going to 6th form, and I have promised him a laptop for doing so well.
Trouble is I dont know which one.
Looking to spend around £400ish.
Any thoughts appreciated

Go to somewhere like PC world and have a look at them, You can then decide the spec and get a deal on line if you don't want to deal with them.
I know a few people with Dell's that are well satisfied. I use Toshiba's and love them, but it all depends on what he needs to do with it.
 
Cheers Pete I had a look at pc world and john lewis. Toshibas seem popular with john lewis and 2 year garanty might have a look at these.

I've gotta say go John Lewis.

My parents brought a £800 Sony Vaio laptop from JL and after about 18 months it overheated and there was some problem with the motherboard. The cost of repair was more that the laptop was worth.

They gave a full refund after 18 months - A service that wouldn't have been recieved elsewhere.

2 year gaurentee is definitely worth having
