can anyone identify this bird?

Hi guys, I saw this bird "playing" in some sand in Cambridge on Tuesday night. Unfortunately we only had my iphone with us so it was the best photo I could get... My girlfriend goes to Bristol Uni and we quite often see Peregrine Falcons flying around the bridge down there and to me this looked a young falcon? It allowed us to get very close before finally flying very low in to the bushes.

Another vote for kestrel. Brown, not grey wings. Kestrel is a falcon though

cheers guys, yeah it was using its wings to throw sand over its body. Does it look young or is that just me? It didn't seem very nervous at all.

No, with the grey tail and head it would be an adult male.
