Can anyone recommend a cheap flash unit, compatible with wireless triggers?

Hello, I was given a wireless flash transmitter trigger thing for off camera flash, trouble is, the only flash I have (canon 166A) "cannot be used witha slave unit". I don't think the damn thing's working anyway as the pilot lamp doesn't come on, and there's no sign of any 'charge' noise coming from the flash once the batteries are in and it's turned on..

So, what I'd like to know, is if anyone knows of a cheap flashgun that will be compatible with one of these wireless thingies?
Second-hand is fine, if I get on with it then I'll upgrade to somethng better when I can afford it!

I'm not planning on using it on camera, so it doesn't matter about brand or age. I'm asking you guys as oppose to heading right on over to fleabay as I'll probably just end up buying another flash that doesn't work with slave units. boo.

Thanks, Lou :)

Have a look for a Nikon SB-24, SB-26, SB-28 or SB-80. The last one probably won't be cheap but you might find a bargain. The others the price fluctuates a little.

Edit: Oh also look for a Vivitar 285HV. Fairly standard strobist flashes really.

You could consider something like the Yongnuo YN-460, it is a cheap full manual flash and costs around £30 from Hong Kong.

I recently ordered one along with some CTR-301p wireless triggers to try some off camera flash, hopefully they will arrive soon but reports seem quite good from what I have read.
