Yes
Was discussing a couple of things at work today with a colleague. He does a lot of drawing and we got onto the subject of Graphics Tablets.

Then we both wondered whether an IPAD or APAD could act like a LCD graphics tablet?

I'm talking Cintiq here.
Can i hook up a IPAD or APAD to my PC and edit my pictures as i would with a Cintiq?

No but it's not practical either, the iPad/apad don't have the scanning resolution of a graphics tablet.

Don't think so, would need a connection from the PC to the tablet.

The closest you'd get is to have a tablet using a LCD as an extended display, although you'll probably be wanting a full OS for that.

No the reason it's not practical is the dpi of the digitizer. I doubt the iPad has a digitiser greater than the resolution of the screen, which is something like 150 dpi or similar, a graphics tablet like a wacom is more like 5000dpi.

You can already use the iPad as an external screen through an app

are you looking for a lcd screen tablet cos I'm going to be selling mine soon, when I can get round to sorting it out

No it won't do what you want. The reason is that the ipad capacitive touch screen is made for fingers which have quite a big touch area. As a result, it is very difficult to get the fine control you would get with a proper stylus and wacom tablet.

There are a few styluses on the market but they also only work with a large touch area.

A while back I had a proper NEC tablet PC which had a full wacom pressure sensitive screen/stylus which was awesome. It was thin, light and lovely running windows but with crap battery life.

I think the next gen of windows running tablets may do what you want, but the iPad is rudimentary at best for fine detailed control.

Cheers for the replies guys.
I had noticed a few LCD tablets going really cheap recently and just wondered whether this might be the reason for their price drop but i assume its just down to far better products being released.
