Just the usual questions. What does she want to do, which she could do with a 1200D but not with a 350D?

I have to agree with Stewart, the 350D is a cracking camera, The 1200D isnt going to be a great deal different, I would suggest saving up a little longer and look for a well love 50D or 60D these will give her a whole lot more capability.

maybe video and live view?

but for similer money you could get a sigma dp, which would kerb stomp a 350d in image quality, but the workflow and how she percieves it might not suit her.
