Just taken the plunge moved up from a cannon 500d I've managed to get a couple of L lenses 24-105 and a 17-40 any advice on my new camera such as the auto focus

Read The F? Manual
I certainly had to do it all coming from 1DIII, so no excuses there.

Exactly. RTFM seems to be a dieing art which is a shame as there is no end of great information within!

I always find reading the manual in chunks as you have the camera with you to see what the changes actually do to the camera. It gives you great detail of what the buttons and settings do. Once you've set it how you want register the settings on the C1, C2 or C3 and you can set the camera for different types of shooting (wildlife, landscape, aviation etc) and then you only need to alter minor adjustments on the day you shoot.

I does take time to really get your head around this camera IMO.
Its easy to get good shots out of it very quickly, especially if you are used to Canon cameras, but to get the best out of it takes time.
The manual is a great help, as are the many threads on line, plus there are some great books that work along side the manual.
My advice is dont try and ruch to cram it all in. Once you have had the camera for a while it starts to make more sense.
As for the lack of people reading the manual, we dont seem to be as bad as that lot over on dpreview. Ive seen some really stupid, basic questions asked over there, like some expect others to teach them how to use a camera because they are too lazy.
