I've been after 1 for ages sold my tamron 17-50 to fund 1 but like you say there expensive!
Was nothing wrong with the tamron just thought the canon had a more useful range and the iq would be better i'd imagine!!
Just hanging on looking for that bargain!
Depends what u like to shoot. Indoors the constant 2.8 is useful, I have the 17-50 VC and am pleased with it, for landscapes sometimes I wish it was a bit wider.
The 15-85 has a 4+ stop IS system. If you're not shooting moving objects, the IS system is superb. Also, the other problem with wide apertures is very shallow depth of field. Great if you want it, but a nightmare if you want a deeper DoF....
I thought you had an issue with weight and bulk? The 15-85 is bigger and heavier than the Tamron.
Might be worth your time to try and get some hands on with both, you wouldn't want to end up in the same situation as you just did with the camera bodies.
