Canon 16-35 l lens dilemma

I purchased a couple of lenses before Christmas from London camera exchange including a 16-35 2.8 ii. I haven't had a chance to do any landscape photography since so haven't used it yet.

My dilemma is that I have realised since that I would have been better off going for the 16-35 f4 is. I have read some reviews and it seems it is sharper and cheaper. For this type of lens I imagine the F4 with is being more useful than f2.8.

I would be grateful for opinions as to wether it is going to be worth going through the hassle of selling the 2.8 to get the f4 is.
 
On the Fred Miranda reviews the F4 gets 9.9 compared the F2.8 getting a rating of 8.9 so both good but the F4 seems to "shine" based on those owners.
 
To throw a spanner in the works, I have a 16-35 f2.8 I and it is one of my favourite lenses. It is small, takes 77m filters and the distortion corrects well in PS. And cheap used of course.
 
Personally - If I didn't already have the 16-35 2.8 ii then I'd get 16-35 f4 is

You said you haven't had the chance to use the 16-35 2.8 ii yet - I'd go and and use it and see what you think.

In all honesty, you should be able to get good results with either lens.
 
Fairly tricky to answer this one as it's only a decision you can make, considering you haven't used it yet would an improvement in sharpness be worth the trouble of getting another lens and having to get rid of the 16-35?

I used to use the 16-35 ii a lot as it's a solid lens, it's not a soft lens it's just not as sharp as a small number of alternatives.
 
Never used either f/2.8 but have the f/4L IS and it really is staggeringly sharp.

Why, you haven't even used it yet!?

I seriously doubt you'll notice any differences in real world shooting in IQ, other than the f/2.8 is better in low light!

The 16-35ii is a very good lens.

If you don't go out and take pictures then you won't notice any difference in image quality.
