Canon 17-55 f2.8 or 24-105 f4L on Canon 550D

What would you prefer going for on a 1.6 crop body such as the 550D, ideally for simple portraits, landscape and maybe wildlife?

I don't think any single lens is going to excel in these three fields. You could argue both would cover portraits, the 17-55 better for landscapes and 24-105 for wildlife at a push!!

In saying that, and there is never and absolute correct focal length for the task at hand, you might be better with a 10-22, 50, 70-200 /100-400 but thats gonna cost a fair bit.

If I had to choose one for the crop...17-55, aperture aside I think it would do portraits/landscapes better than the 24-105 could do portraits/wildlife.
 
Depends do you need the lower f stop or the extra reach?

For portraits I'd use the canon 17-55. This is because of the low f stop can produce some lovely bokeh. I'd also consider the 50mm 1.4 and the Tamron 17-50.
 
I do already have the Canon 70-200 non I/s L lens think I'm best off keeping the 17-55 to be honest, I think the lower range will suit better, thanks for your replies all
