Take a look at the Sigma version. Seems to get great reviews and for a 1/3 less than the Canon, who would complain?
What on earth does Sigma have to do with what hood he should get for his Canon lens!?
I think a hood is generally good to have but whether the Canon one is worth it over the clones is debateable. The Canon ones have a soft felt-like interior lining to cut down reflections which many of the clones don't but apart from that there's not much to choose between them.
