Canon 1D Classic

Yeah I've got one. It's a dinosaur compared to even the 450D, but the pros and cons:

Pros:

Build & feel
Autofocus
Small file size
Lovely out the camera jpegs

Cons:

Batteries (it eats them)
Low MP
The weight
Not good at high ISO

They go for about what £400+ I think? As I said compared to even things like the 40D (which you can get second hand for about the same price) it's a bit of a dinosaur. But if you get a nice clean one (make sure you get the charger as it's about £100?) it's nice to take out on a sunny day and blast away at 8.5fps.

Here's what it can do though: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=453274

4mp, awful ISO performance and a weight of a brick? Maybe pick up a brick, write Canon and hang it on your neck with a red Canon strap? That was perhaps too ironic... Let's get real, 1D mk2 is the one you want and is capable of great output for not much more £. I would get rid of 450D for mk2 in an instant.

I'm not seeing many 1D MK II cameras go for that price? Cheapest I'm seeing in completed listings is about £600 and that is ones with oil in the viewfinder. £600+ seems more realistic than £400+?

Interesting replies.

If anyone else has anything to add, I'd be ever greatful.

Go for a 1D Mark II. Stretch the budget a little - you'll thank us for it in the end.

best start filling up that piggy bank!

If you can afford a 1D MKII then get one! They are a brilliant camera, I upgraded from a 20D and it was like a whole new world, Delighted with it... My only issue after moving from a 1.6x crop is the fact the 1D's is only a 1.3x makes quite a big difference when shooting sport!
